Not Your Typical Copyright Workshop: Creative Commons and What You Can Do
Location: Cajun
Copyright is complicated. Many educators simply claim "fair use", try to hide behind "it's for the kids'", and don't want to think hard about the implications of copyright compliance. Layer the ease of use with new digital technologies that makes breaking the law orders of magnitude easier. Copyright becomes a very messy topic. What if, rather than playing by the law, we just bypassed it all together? This session explores the role Creative Commons plays in the digital copyright landscape. Creative Commons allows content producers and content consumers to expressly waive traditional copyright and share their creativity in a more flexible manner. This session will share strategies for finding Creative Commons licensed images, audio, and classroom content.

Learn to Network, Network to Learn: Web 2.0 Technology as Personal Learning
Location: New Orleans Center
Rigor, relevance, and relationships have been proposed as "the new 3R's" of the high school reform movement. High standards (rigor) and real world context (relevance) are fairly easy for educators to understand. What do 21st century relationships look like? How can we leverage technology to accelerate rigor and relevance through relationship building? We'll take a look at various social networking technologies and how they are being used by teachers, librarians, and administrators to communicate, coordinate, and collaborate. These environments are developing into powerful professional learning communities fueled by authentic, personal relationships.
