Verification of Preparation for Online Learning

Student preparation for the online learning environment is vital and an important part of your role as the Online Mentor. Before enrolling your student, please look over this checklist and make sure that you can say “Yes” to the following questions about your student. If you can, please submit this form. If your student needs more preparation, please return to enroll the student upon student completion of these minimal competencies.

General Readiness

  • The student has demonstrated the personal skills to direct his/her own learning and fulfill course requirements.
  • The student has demonstrated the motivation to succeed as an online learner.

Technical Readiness

  • Student has demonstrated competency in keyboarding
  • Student has demonstrated competency in word processing.
  • Student has demonstrated competency in the use of an Internet browser.
  • Student has demonstrated competency in the use of e-mail.

Reading and Writing Skills

  • Student can read at a level that is appropriate for the course. (Reading requirements for current course offerings are at an 8th grade level.)
  • Student has ability to articulate ideas and communicate questions in writing.
  • Student is able to work independently on various types of written assignments, such as essays, interviews, research papers, and opinion papers.

Other District Requirements

  • Student is aware of Local District Policy regarding Online Learning and has signed, if applicable, forms required by the local district.
  • The student’s parents are aware of this course option and have signed permission forms [if required by the home district.]
