[edit] Troubleshooting

Important for Windows Users!
If you are having issues seeing video copied from the Flip Video devices, take a moment to install the following video drivers. NOTE: If you are in a district that has students and teachers logging into Windows with a username and password, the following drivers must be installed by somebody with administrative access privileges on the computer.

Mac Users
If you are getting audio with no video (or white video), or are told by Quicktime that "This video requires additional codecs...", download and install these free DivX video codes in this next link.

Sort of Important Update
Flip Video has this advisory on their site as of December 2007. While I haven't seen the issues described, it won't hurt to perform these updates. This update resolves issues related to copying videos off of the camcorder and improves overall camcorder and software performance. We strongly recommend that you perform this critical update immediately. Videos on the camcorder will not be lost.

[edit] Flip Video Workflow with Windows MovieMaker

  1. Shoot video with Flip Video camera.
  2. Start by creating a folder on your computer. I'll call it "My Cool Project".
  3. Copy the video files from the Flip Video camera into "My Cool Project".
  4. Open MovieMaker.
  5. Under the File menu, choose "Import Into Collections".

[edit] Flip Video Camera as Hard Drive

Moving files around, especially audio and video, can get complex. Most audio and video will be too large to squeeze through and email system.

Solution: Use the Flip Video Cameras as USB hard drives! When finished editing audio (Audacity) or video (MovieMaker), copy the final file back onto the Flip Video Camera by going to "My Computer", double-clicking "Flip Video", and dragging the file from the desktop back to the camera.

Bring this file to any other computer (i.e. "production computer") and copy your finished file to a safe, secure location.
