[edit] WiscNet Website Text
Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

[edit] WiscNet 2008 Future Technologies Conference
Building the Network Around the Network
Web 1.0 was about connecting people to things. Web 2.0 is about connecting people to people. Nice and simple. But what does this actually look like? More importantly, what does this mean for the future of our networked things and our networked members? This session mixes equal parts demonstration and conversation. We'll gaze a bit at what "networked learning" means through the perspective of WiscNet's new Educational Technology Liaison John Pederson. We also want to hear from you about issues facing members as we grapple with what "networked learning" means in our schools and libraries.
Unleashing Creativity in Web 2.0 Environments Through Creative Commons
Copyright is complicated. Many educators claim "fair use", say "it's for the kids", and don't want to think hard about the implications of copyright compliance. Meanwhile, the ease of use with new digital technologies makes breaking the law orders of magnitude easier. Copyright becomes a very messy topic. What if we just bypassed it all together? This session explores the role Creative Commons plays in the digital copyright landscape. Creative Commons allows content producers and content consumers to share their creativity in a more flexible manner. This session will share strategies for finding Creative Commons licensed images, audio, and classroom content.
[edit] WEMTA 2008 Conference
WEMTA 2008 was a blast! Thanks for all of the great conversations that happened over the weekend. I'm archiving my presentations at WEMTA 2008 for those of you visiting to see what went down.
[edit] Learn to Network, Network to Learn: Web 2.0 Technologies as Personal Learning
This is my keynote spotlight session for WEMTA 2008! Rigor, relevance, and relationships have been proposed as "the new 3R's" of the high school reform movement. High standards (rigor) and real world context (relevance) are fairly easy for educators to understand. What do 21st century relationships look like? How can we leverage technology to accelerate rigor and relevance through relationship building? We'll take a look at various social networking technologies and how they are being used by teachers, librarians, and administrators to communicate, coordinate, and collaborate. These environments are developing into powerful professional learning communities fueled by authentic, personal relationships.
[edit] La Crosse Middle School Technology Visioning
The School District of La Crosse, Wisconsin invited me to come kick off a "technology visioning and planning" process with middle school leaders. Educators shared their past and current successes for the first hour of the session. We then moved to some "bigger picture" visioning about what our students see in technology these days. The presentation was a mix of research, video, and group discussion about what all of these means. Enjoy!
[edit] Knock Knock, Millenials are Here
Millenials (a generation tag for people born between 1980 and 2000) are an interesting breed. This presentation presents research on the characteristics of millenials, how to manage them, and what their expectations are regarding technology.
[edit] The Wiki Wiki Web of Collaboration
I'm a fanatic about using Wikis to deliver content and collaborate online. This presentation is designed to introduce folks to how wikis are changing the way we organize information, all the way from Wikipedia down to simple group collaboration.

This is a piece of filler text. I frequently use this text to take the place of actual content. Usually all that is necessary is a simple description of the keynote, workshop, tutorial, or resource. This is our 2008-2009 EETT Grant Proposal. Still in early development.
[edit] 2007-2008 EETT Grant Proposal
We plan to recruit teams of classroom teachers, library media specialists, and administrators to develop a cross-curricular, school-wide project that celebrates their local community. Teams will tap into emerging technologies, primarily around podcasting, to engage students in writing, researching, and communicating the story of their community. Modeled after Tony Vincent’s Our City Podcast, students will participate in critical thinking/problem solving, communication, creativity, collaboration, information/media literacy, and contextual learning skills from the Partnership for 21st Century Skills model. Teacher learning will focus on developing quality assessments at the start of the project, the intent being to develop solid expectations and move from technology literacy to transformative applications of technology.

[edit] Web 2.0: Connecting People
This is a simple "What is Web 2.0" workshop for general purposes. If Web 1.0 is about connecting "things", Web 2.0 is about connecting "people".
[edit] Google for Educators
Google has arrived, not only as a search engine, but also as a provider of many "best of breed" free applications and services ranging from custom search engines to spreadsheets. This workshop focuses on a few really cool tricks up Google's sleeve.
[edit] Internet Safety and Awareness
We aren't making the issue any better by blocking it from our school. Educators need to know what's happening, both good and bad, when the students get home and log into whatever online communities are the rage. We'll explore a few popular sites, talk about the positives and negatives, and introduce strategies for educators to know what's happening online.
[edit] Inbox Zero for Busy School People
Is your email overwhelming you? Are you "living" out of your inbox? This workshop is designed to teach busy educators a few tricks in order to help make this digital world work for you instead of against you. We'll begin with the biggie: Email. Once you feel "Inbox Zero", you will have a new relationship with that wicked little beast. We'll touch play a bit with managing calendars, particularly inside of Google. We'll wrap with a short section on digital collaboration with wikis. Don't let that word frighten you. I'm only trying to tweak your curiosity.
[edit] Developing Websites with Wikispaces
Wikispaces is a popular place for teachers to put together quick, free sites for instructional use. For some examples of teacher Wikispaces sites around CESA #3, visit Teacher Wikispaces Sites or check out My Demo Classroom for an idea of what is possible. You've heard quick and free before, but until you have experienced Wikispaces, you don't know what you are missing. This hands-on experience takes you from A-Z with time left over to build in your own content.

I'm building a copyright workshop from the perspective of Creative Commons.

This is the outline and details of how I'm working with Black Hawk School District with their iTASC days.
[edit] Wikispaces for Educators
Wikispaces is a free service that allows educators to build and maintain their own wiki-based website. Don't let that strange "wiki" word get in your way. It's extremely easy and powerful.

[edit] Doodle
5 minutes left in the meeting. The group needs to meet again. Calendars come out. You know that the next 15 minutes will be spent negotiating the next meeting date/time. Stop the madness with Doodle, the easiest web application ever built.
[edit] Photo Story 3
Photo Story 3 is a Windows XP/Vista only product that lets people throw together really good slideshows really fast.
[edit] Using Google Calendar
Google Calendar is what I call "the least common denominator" in the calendar game. It's free, it works well, it allows you to share, it allows you to publish your calendars for everybody to see. You should already have a good account. Might as well use their calendar as well.
[edit] Flip Video
These little "Flip Video" devices are $120 video cameras with a nice little USB connector. They take surprisingly good video and audio for the price and are very convenient alternatives to digital video cameras.
